Safety Razor Maintenance
It is also recommended to take out the razor blade after each shave, this will release any build up of soap and stubble. Having a magnet handy is a great way to keep your razor blades between shaves.

Yaqi Telstar Safety Razor Head
I hand-polished the one I received which I think added to the smoothness of the razor. The shave is very efficient but also very smooth and suited to a heavy beard or 2 days+ growth.

Telstar SS razor head
Give this razor head a second chance . I loved the Akari straight off , but found the Telstar aggressive with my usual Astra or Feather blade . Then I retried it with a “ *****’s” blade and a Rocket SS handle , it gave a beautiful smooth efficient shave .

Top stuff
It is a very good looking head, and well made as well (there are some machining marks on the underside of the top cap that they have left as is without trying to remove them, but they don't bother me). The head shows just how (surprisingly) important the handle you use is. I've used the head three times now, first time with the Yaqi Rocket handle, second time with the Yaqi Contact, then third with the Yaqi Rocket again. First shave was quite good, no issues. Second shave was a little rough. Third shave was again quite good. I had swapped to the Contact because the Telstar is on the heavy side, and so is the Rocket - so I thought I'd try a shorter, lighter handle. Seems I wasn't quite getting the angle correct as a result, so I switched back to the Rocket. Bigger, heavier, but seemingly easier to get the correct angle (the Telstar requires a steep angle). I like the look, the lather channel in the middle is nice to see, the head does not allow the blade tabs to protrude (head covering the blade tabs is my preference), and it is made of steel so is very sturdy. I note that Kevy Shaves recently reviewed the Telstar on YouTube - he said it was a bit like the Muhle Rocca. I own a Rocca, and I didn't find that. Yes, both are stainless steel...but they don't really look alike, the Rocca has no lather channel in the middle because the tabs on the top cap use that area to sit inside (I like my heads to have a channel for easier rinsing), and I find that while the Rocca is a very good razor, it is consistently harder to find the correct angle with the Rocca than the Telstar. Anyway, overall a winner!
