A surprise
Well, this was a surprise. Lansky are not a razor maker, they appear to be a knife company, so this is probably made by someone else and the Lansky brand added. It would be a Gillette clone, don't know which one though, I am not a vintage razor guy. I was unable to find any reviews of this razor at all before I bought mine, which wasn't promising. With all that, I was not expecting much. However, it is well built, blade exposure is even on both sides (common issue with adjustable razors is different blade exposure on each side due to poor QA), and it shaves very well. I don't know if - like the old Gillette adjustables - you need to back off the tension on the blade before you turn the adjustment dial, but while shaving I did just in case, to avoid any damage to the mechanism. The barn doors seem solidly locked while the razor is in use, the dial for the doors is at the bottom of the razor so you don't accidentally open them up while you are using it, and the adjustment dial seems solid enough not to be accidentally changed while in use as well. Price is great. Only downside I have found is that the adjustment dial goes 360 degrees while there is no blade in, all my other adjustable razors have a stopping point.
The Wet Shaving Co.
Thx Chris, Lansky knife company is a different company all together, this Lansky hasn't put their own name on a razor before, these are the first. They usually supply other brands that you would be familiar with. So the expertise is there, just the name is new. Like you said the price is great.

Impressed
I shaved with the Lansky Butterfly last night. I’m so impressed with these razors, it feels solidly built, its weighty, the adjustment dial is tight, and the mechanism clamps the blade down so there is no movement whatsoever. I wish I could say the same about my more expensive butterfly razors I have. I’m beginning to realise they aren’t as good as the Lansky. The knurled handle gives great grip on wet hands without feeling uncomfortable as well. Set on max with an Astra blade and a Blue Devil shave soap, it shaves really close without feeling like it’s going to cut you, it would be great for both inexperience and experienced shavers no matter the setting. I don’t know how long these razors have been on the market, but I wish I knew about them when I was in the military when a very close shave was mandatory. I’ll definitely be letting others know about how good they are.
